I want to go shooting now. *sigh* Anyway, I can see the pluses and minuses of both. I won't go into massive detail, but as one example, but Linux is more secure from an security standpoint, but Windows is more well known which means that from a business standpoint, you can find people who can run them much more easily, and will find support people and techs more readily available.

If you really had to have a second example, this is one I find lame because I am not a gamer, but I hear it a lot. Many say that you can't find the computer games for Linux that you can for Windows, but on the flip side, the games you can find for Linux are free and you can make changes of your own if you have the know-how and time to invest.

Anyway, I suggest to everyone to try them both, and actually spend some time with the one you don't know. Then decide which fits you best. You may be surprised. s A Windows user, I started with a distro that was created to be the same sort of user interface. I knew that I had neither the patience nor drive to learn something entirely and completely new.

@ MoLE sudo make me a sandwich.....
@ Chad I agree with the guys that were wanting to shoot the "Windows machines", the linux boxes were probably in a kernel panic or something at that point... If your going to blow something up, blow up something that works...
Now I am off to try to convince a development group to use IIS rather then apache....

we have a room full of geeks with just a couple norms, there was a conversation about destroying hardware with high caliber weapons and one of the norms popped up with "are you killing Linux machines or windows machines?" four voices rang out in unison "windows machines" :-)

Depends on how you define "real". If you mean "common", that's fine. But if you mean "popular" then use a linux OS (except perhaps "damn vulnerable linux")
